Comprising 5 Accommodations with
Stabling and Fishing |
|
Description: |
|
Within
Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Bakers Mill Farm nestles
in the lush green and peaceful river Axe valley surrounded by the
rolling hills and picturesque villages of West Dorset.
The working farm dates from the early 1600's and is a haven for
wildlife. You may see rabbits, foxes, badgers, and deer. The deer are
not shy and you can often see them grazing near the cottages. Heron,
geese, ducks and buzzards can be seen and there are many species of
smaller birds on the farm, ideal for those of you interested in bird
watching. During the summer swallows and house martins will be flying
all around the cottages. Water voles and otters have recently
inhabited the farm.
The holiday cottages are situated in the centre of the picture. They
comprise a Grade II listed stone barn and traditional farm buildings
which have been tastefully restored to create four terrace cottages,
each with one double bedroom sleeping two/three plus cot, and a barn
conversion with three double bedrooms, sleeping six plus cot. There is
also a games room, laundry room, BBQ, picnic tables for al-fresco
dining, and three stables for visitors horses. They surround a sunny
courtyard, featuring a rill and small wildlife pond. There are
enclosed gardens and patio areas. A paddock is available for horses if
required.

Coarse fishing is
available and our recently stocked coarse fishery has been set up for the sole use
of our holiday cottages. Broadleaze Fishery consists of 2 established
spring fed lakes with a total area of 1.5 acres and varying depths to
10 feet. They are well stocked with carp to double figures, bream to
9lb, tench and roach
We are perfectly situated to tour the countryside of Thomas Hardy and
River Cottage. Historic market towns, the Jurassic Heritage Coast of
West Dorset, stately homes and gardens, and parts of Somerset, are all
within easy reach of this idyllic setting.
You can play golf, fish, clay pigeon shoot or see the area on cycle,
horse back, or even llama trek from the village. There are walks from
the farm, and a couple of long distance footpaths are close-by.
The village amenities of shop, post office and pub serving food are
all within a 20 minute walk of the farm down a little used country
lane.
We have received an 'Award of Excellence for Retreat of the Year 2007'
from The Shires Magazine in recognition of the quality of service we
provide.
Pets
We welcome dogs in all our accommodation but we prefer to keep The
Granary pet free due to its layout. If you wish to bring more than one
dog please speak to us (we are normally happy to oblige). For anyone
wishing to bring cats there is a cattery just down the road and we
would be happy to furnish you with details if required. Dogs are
charged at £20 for first dog and £15 for each subsequent dog in the
family per week or part of, and we would ask that they are kept under
control as this is a working farm.

trip, while still being fun for the family and providing good sport
for all.
Located just 5 minutes drive from the cottages with a panoramic view
down the Axe valley, the rural setting provides the perfect place to
relax, fish, and observe the interesting wildlife; foxes, deer, and
towards evening, badgers can be spotted along with quite a few species
of waterfowl. You will note the lakes have been fenced to keep otters
