Welcome to Derrygiff, set in the heart
of Fermanagh's Lakeland
We aim to provide you with a warm welcome, comfortable
accommodation and a quiet, relaxed environment for you to enjoy your
holiday. There is lots to do and see around Fermanagh, and across the
border in neighbouring Donegal, Sligo and Cavan. Derrygiff is ideally
sited for you to take advantage of all that is on offer.
The Cottage
Derrygiff Cottage is a single storey four-bedroomed purpose-built
cottage, constructed in 2004. It can sleep up to 8 people in great
comfort (two double - one with kingsize bed - and two twin rooms) and
is suitable for those with limited mobility or in wheelchairs. The
cottage is furnished to above the normal standard found in holiday
accommodation, fully equipped with useful extras such as ironing board
and iron and a hairdrier, has oil-fired central heating and constant
hot water. There is plenty of baby equipment including 2 cots, 2 high
chairs, baby bath, steriliser, baby alarms etc. It has a large sized
bathroom and en suite shower room, and large kitchen/diner and sitting
room area with comfy seating and Digital TV, video and DVD player. It
has its own garden area with furniture and gas BBQ, and views over the
spectacular mountain scenery to the south. Derrygiff is a family-run,
working farm and is situated just 4.5 miles south of Enniskillen,
amidst rolling countryside with 360 degree views of farmland and
mountains.
All
bedding is provided, and towels are available to hire at £2 each. A
"welcome pack" of tea, coffee and biscuits is provided free of charge.
Additional provisions can be organised for you at cost plus a £2
administration fee. There are the usual supermarkets in town, and a
very good shop in nearby Bellanaleck which can provide most of what
you may need.
There
is a washer/drier in the kitchen, and outside we have a washing and
drying room with industrial sized washing machine, tumble drier and
heated drying rail for bulkier or dirtier items (eg fishing gear).
There is also a tackle shed with bait fridge adjacent to the drying
room.

We
welcome parties of people wanting to walk, cycle, ride or fish, and we
also welcome families and can provide toys and games for the older
children, and a cot and other baby equipment for younger ones. Board
games, cards, and some videos and books are available for your use.
Note to Anglers:
We can sleep up to 8 anglers, the cottage is advertised as 2 double 2 twin, but extra beds can be provided for those who don't want to share!. We have masses of parking and a large, dedicated bait and tackle shed with fridges, drying rail etc, and an enormous supply of red worms on farm. There is a fishing pond on site as well as the vast array of venues within Fermanagh and
surrounding counties.

Stabling and grazing are available for those wishing to bring their
horses on holiday. Bicycles may be hired locally. There is plenty of
information in the cottage on where to ride and walk in the nearby
forest and mountain parks or the expansive sandy beaches of Donegal.
We also welcome well-behaved dogs and ask that dogs are not allowed on
any furniture, and are kept shut in the hallway at night. Dogs must be
kept on leads outside the cottage because of sheep, cattle and horses,
and any dog fouling must be removed and placed in the bin provided.
Derrygiff is a working farm, and farm animals and farm machinery must
be expected. We would ask that children are supervised at all times
and are not allowed to wander away from the cottage and its garden for
safety reasons.
Fishing:
Enniskillen, the Island Town, is situated between Upper and Lower
Lough Erne, and there are literally hundreds of lakes and rivers which
provide enormous scope for the angler, whether coarse or fly fishing.
There are a number of competitions running throughout the year for the
competition angler, including several larger matches and festivals.
There is an excellent tackle and bait shop just 4 miles away on the
outskirts of town. Fishing visitors will be given up to date tips on
where to fish, and information on permits and licences. Bait may be
pre-ordered by phoning Cloughbally Mill Angling Centre on 02866
322008.

Treat your Horse to a Holiday.
For
those wishing to bring their horse on holiday to Fermanagh, we can
offer livery together with our luxurious self-catering accommodation.
Livery is tailored to suit you and your horse, so please speak to us
about your requirements and we will design a package around them.
Our
facilities include spacious well-ventilated stabling, extensive summer
turnout and “dry” winter turnout, undercover horsewalker with rubber
tiled flooring, a 30x40 metre sand school with jumps, and a cross
country course comprising both fixed and portable fences, which is
open, subject to weather and ground conditions, for approximately 5
months of the year.

Things to Do During Your Stay
This part of Ireland is ideal as a base for any
number of outdoor activities.
Boating
There are lots of opportunities for getting out on the water, whether
hiring a boat for yourselves, or taking a trip on the loughs in one of
the pleasure boats, either to visit some of the islands, or to combine
with a meal at a riverside restaurant.
Walking and Cycling
Derrygiff is very close to the spectacular mountainous areas of the
Cuilcagh Mountain Park, Marble Arch Nature Reserve, Benaughlin
Mountain, and Florence Court Forest, with trails suitable for everyone
from families with children to the serious walker. We are near to the
Ulster Way and Kingfisher Trail, which are clearly mapped and
signposted for ease of use.
Golf
For the keen golfer there are three 18 hole golf courses on the
outskirts of Enniskillen, including Ashwood just 2 miles away, and a
championship course at the Slieve Russell Hotel in Ballyconnell.
Sightseeing
Marble Arch Caves
Within just a few minutes drive we have the spectacular Marble Arch
Caves, with daily guided tours from March through to September
(subject to weather conditions). The caves are on the scenic Marlbank
route and a visit can be combined with a walk in the Cuilcagh Mountain
Park.
Florence Court House
Nearby National Trust property Florence Court House and Gardens is
well worth a visit, and may be combined with a walk in Florence Court
Forest (the trails join up with the Ulster Way).
Enniskillen Castle and Museum
The castle is situated in Enniskillen town, and is also home to the
Fermanagh County Museum and Regimental Museum of the Iniskilling
Fusiliers. A visit to the castle may be combined with a look around
the shops in Enniskillen, with its pubs, restaurants and Buttermarket
craft centre.
Castle Coole
On the edge of the town is Castle Coole with its delightful parkland
and neo-classical house.
Crom Estate
Crom boasts one of Ireland's most important nature reserves, with its
2000 acres of woodland, parkland and wetland.
Ulster American Folk Park
This attraction in Omagh, about 30 miles away, is an absolute must to
visit. There is an extensive indoor museum and a fascinating open air
museum detailing the story of emigration from Ulster to North America
in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Lough Navar Forest Drive
A seven mile drive from Derrygonelly through Lough Navar Forest ends
up at a spectacular viewpoint overlooking Lower Lough Erne and its
islands. This is a highly recommended trip to take.
Belleek Pottery
A scenic drive along the south side of Lower Lough Erne takes you to
the border town of Belleek, with its fascinating pottery producing the
world famous parian china. A return trip along the north side of the
Lough, across Boa Island, provides some outstanding views and
photographic opportunities.
Other Entertainment
Enniskillen has a multiscreen cinema showing all the latest movies,
and the Ardhowen Theatre with its range of productions.
The Lakeland Forum provides opportunities for sport and swimming, and
an indoor play area for small children. The Round O playground is also
useful for occupying small children for a few hours, and is also the
place to catch the boat for a trip around Lower Lough Erne and a visit
to Devenish Island with its ancient ruins.
Eating Out
There are plenty of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. For a
daytime snack or lunch in town, we recommend Rebecca's Coffee Shop in
the Buttermarket. Other recommended restaurants in town include
Franco's and Café Merlot, but there are numerous places to choose
from.
Nearest to Derrygiff is the Sheelin Tea Room in Bellanaleck, and the
award winning MacNean Bistro in Blacklion (booking recommended).
There is an excellent fish and chip shop in Bellanaleck, and a very
good Chinese Takeaway on the Sligo Road on the way into town, if you
fancy a night in.
There are two pubs just a mile away in Arney, one of which has an off
licence attached and another 1.7 miles away at the junction of the
Sligo and Swanlinbar Roads.
Many of the local pubs have traditional live music evenings and
entertainment.
