Location: Danube
Delta, Romania.
People come to the ‘Dunarea’ hotel to fish, go bird
watching, to relax and to enjoy some of the loveliest and beautiful sites
in Romania.
The hotel, built on the site of an old fishery, is located on a small
peninsular with the river Danube on one side and small channels on the
other side in a tranquil location. Some local fishermen believe trading of
fish took place here - officially - since 1800’s, but local tradition it’s
full of fisherman stories hundred of years old.
This is wildlife, miles away from civilisation, in one of the Europe’s
largest remaining natural wetlands which consists of a network of river
channels, shallow bays and hundreds of lakes, interspersed with extensive
marshes, reed-beds, wooded areas and islands. In fact the hotel is the
only trace of modern civilization for miles and is accessible only by
boat.

DESCRIPTION-OF-FISHING:
The Danube Delta is a low alluvial plain, mostly
covered by wetlands and water. It consists of an intricate pattern of
marshes, channels, streamlets and lakes. It hosts 23 natural ecosystems,
but due to the extent of wetlands the aquatic environment is prevalent;
the terrestrial environment is also present on the higher grounds of the
continental levees, where xerophile ecosystems have developed.
The fish fauna from the Danube Delta is remarkably rich, with 86 species
and 22 families such as crucians, carps, breams, pikes, tench, sheat fish,
pike perches and also the famous great sturgeons, common sturgeons and
sevrugas . The majority is fresh water fishes, but there are also marine
species that come into the Danube Delta and on the Danube course during
the reproduction season.
Situated on major migratory routes, and providing adequate conditions for
nesting and hatching, the Danube Delta is a magnet for birds from six
major eco-regions of the world, including the Mongolian, Arctic and
Siberian. There are over 320 species of birds found in the delta during
summer, of which 166 are hatching species and 159 are migratory. Over one
million individuals (swans, wild ducks, bald coots, etc.) winter here.
