Welcome to the Grange Farm
.
We
would like to show you our holiday cottages, campsite and fishing
lakes (for adults only), which are set in the Lincolnshire Wolds -
designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We moved here in
1999 and fell in love with this part of Lincolnshire. We think you
will too.
Grange Farm is surrounded by beautiful countryside: woods, valleys,
streams and rivers, with dry valleys cut out by the glacial melt
waters which formed the landscapes we see today. Over the ridge and
the Bluestone Heath Road are rolling acres of arable land producing
much of our country's cereals and fresh produce.
The Poet Laureate Alfred Tennyson was born at Somersby just 2 miles
away and the little stream at the bottom of our fields is the same
babbling brook mentioned in his work.
Before we came here, we thought Lincolnshire was all flat fenland! It
seems that the Wolds are a well kept secret.
Grange Farm's location really is ideal to reach the wide variety of
attractions that Lincolnshire has to offer.
In the early 1990s the three holiday cottages were sympathetically
converted from a former barn, and are brick built with exposed beams
and brickwork, and the old original upper floor supports are still in
place resting on the stone padstones The holiday cottages are graded
by the English Tourist Board as three star self catering.
To
welcome you to our farm, and thank you for choosing to stay with us,
we provide a bottle of wine, a pint of milk and a beverage tray. So
straight away you can sit and relax with a cuppa or a glass! Please be
advised that we ask that you refrain from smoking when in the
cottages.

Oakleaf Cottage
This is the cottage to the left of the photo and sleeps 4 people.
Upstairs, there is a double bedroom and there is a twin bedded room
with full size 'cabin' crossover style beds. The bathroom/WC is on the
ground floor and has a shower over the bath.
June 2009 from Bob, Sandra & Vera:
Excellent accommodation, fishing great, peace and quiet beyond price.
In other words a proper home from home.

Beechwood Cottage
This is the middle cottage and sleeps 3 (4)people (a fold-up single
bed is available). Upstairs there is a twin bedroom and a single
bedroom. The bathroom is also upstairs but only has a shower. This
cottage has the largest downstairs space.
May 2009 from Rita & Barry May:
Excellent well thought out accommodation. Fishing really good. Most
friendly hosts.
September 2009 from Allan & Ann:
Nice cottage, so peaceful and relaxing. Breathtaking views. Thanks Val
& Bill.

Cobnut Cottage
This is the cottage to the right of the photo and sleeps 3 people. It
offers a double and a single bedroom upstairs. The bathroom/WC (shower
over bath) is downstairs.
September 2009 from Mick:
Back again as I said I would! The fishing is still good if not better.
May 2009 from Jason, Jackie & Freya:
Another wonderful week. Good walks for dogs. Lincoln & Horncastle good
shopping.
Downstairs, each cottage has an open plan living cum dining area with
a fully fitted kitchen. In each lounge there is a three piece suite,
dining furniture, coffee tables and a colour TV with Freeview, DVD,
Radio, and CD player. There are games and books.
Outside the cottages is the shared garden, garden furniture and
barbeque area - ideal for relaxing during the warmer months
some interior views
The
barn is a few steps away and here you will find the laundry facility.
This is equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer. They are
free of charge to cottage residents. There is a small charge to
campsite visitors for usage. There is an iron and board and outside
drying lines. Also in the barn you will find the farm Tourist
Information Area.
Via another door into the barn there is a secure store for cycles,
fishing tackle and mobility scooters. Electric sockets are available
for charging batteries. The bait fridge is in here.
This area also provides a drying area, with a de-humidifier to deal
with wet walking, cycling and fishing gear.
The cottages are usually let on an individual basis, accommodating 3-4
people. They can be booked together for larger groups if required,
however, they are not interlinked.
Your cottage will be available from 15:00 on the first day and you are
asked to depart by 10:00 on your last day.
Do you hate being separated from your pets and worry when they are in
kennels? Why not bring them with you? We have been host to dogs, cats,
guinea pigs and a budgie to date. All we ask is that you bring their
beds, cages, leads etc and ensure they are house trained. We would ask
that they remain downstairs and are not left alone unless caged. We
have designated bins for "poo bags".
If you need to keep in touch with the outside world, newspapers can be
delivered, just give your order details on the booking form. Please
pay the paper lady direct.
The cottages are fully equipped and we provide all linens, towels,
heating and cleaning materials.

Campsite
We
opened the campsite in 2003 at the top of the big field, and it is
licensed as a Caravan Club Certificated
Location (CL) catering for five touring vans.
We have five hard standings all with electric hook up to 16 amp. There
is also a grassed area for anyone preferring to be on grass.
The screened service area is situated on the site. It has the fresh
and waste water points, chemical disposal toilet and bin area. We do
ask that everyone assists with recycling. Full details are posted.
In the barn there are separate male and female WCs and a shower.
Visitors are welcome to use the laundry and other facilities in the
barn too.
The
Fishing Lakes were constructed in
about 1993. They are about 100 yards from the cottages and campsite.
To the delights of our rural location, add peace and quiet and
wildlife. You might see our Barn Owl, Meadow Pipit, Skylark, Tree
Sparrow, House Sparrow, Woodpeckers Green and Pied, Kingfisher,
Goldfinch, Yellowhammer, Blue Tits, Blackbirds, Thrush, Chaffinch, and
more. Watch out for Deer, Fox, Weasel, Stoat, Vole, Water Vole,
Rabbits and Hare (our favourite as you might have guessed!).
Lastly, it is only a short stroll down the lane to our village pub and
restaurant. They are open all day for food and drink. We are fortunate
enough to have a small 'local' shop in Tetford, 1/2 mile away which
stocks basic commodities and also meat from the nearby rare breeds
farmer.

Things to do
Lincolnshire is a wonderful area for walking.
We have many printed walks leaflets available, including some 'bus and
walk' leaflets for those who wish to travel further afield. We are
close to the famous Viking Way and
the Bluestone Heath Road which tops the ridge, following the old
reindeer routes of long ago.
Cyclists too can enjoy the area
and again there are printed cycle route leaflets available to borrow.
We keep a folder with Sustran's information.
Remember that Grange Farm is
accredited with the Tourist Board Welcome
Walker and Welcome Cyclist, so you can be assured that
everything you need, will be provided according to that 'Standard'.
Lincolnshire Churches are amongst the best in the land. You will find
Lincoln Cathedral a 'special
place' and well worth a visit. The Boston
Stump is famous for its high tower and
St James' Church in Louth famous
for its tall spire. We have Church Trail leaflets available.
Our own South Ormsby Group of Parishes was the first 'Group' ministry
to be set up in the 1960's. It consists of 16 parishes, with nine
churches used regularly.
Lincoln our County City is 25 miles from
Grange Farm and in the Bailgate area is the
Cathedral which is built on the
highest point. It is a magnificent beacon to visitors from afar.
Nearby is the Castle built by
William the Conqueror and home to the Magna
Carta. The area between these buildings is the site of the
Lincoln Christmas Market held each
year in early December.
Visit the new, award winning free entry museum "The Collection"
featuring Art & Archaeology.
The street from the Bailgate down to the main shopping centre is known
as Steep Hill and lives up to its name!
Look for Brayford Pool and Wharf
and enjoy the hostelries and restaurants. Take a boat trip on the Pool
and surrounding areas.
The market town of Louth 10 miles
away is a delight. With its variety of shops and market there is
something for everyone. St James' Church is a must - have you the
energy to climb the steps to the viewpoint near the top of the spire?
Pubs, tea rooms, cafes, fish and chip shops and restaurants provide a
wide choice of menus to suit most tastes. Famous former students of
the King Edward VI Grammar School are Captain John Smith, Sir John
Franklin and Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
Hubbards Hill is a splendid family
nature spot near Louth where children can run around, paddle in the
stream, climb slopes and work off their energy - all free of charge
(except the car park fee).
Horncastle is 6 miles away and is
famous for its Roman connections. Parts of the ancient wall can still
be seen. Known in those times as Banovallum, the name is perpetuated
in a variety of local names eg. Banovallum School and Banovallum Brass
Band. It is also renowned for the many and varied Antique shops.
Have you heard of Mr Marwood, the hangman who perfected the 'long
drop'? He used to live in Horncastle not far from the parish church. A
plaque can be found on the wall of the house.
Alford is 10 miles away at the
start of the coastal plain beneath the Wolds. Look for the
Windmill and the Manor House, both
open to the public. The Manor was recently re-opened after extensive
renovation. This little town hosts Craft Fairs and Folk Festivals
regularly.
The Coastal resorts of Skegness, Mablethorpe,
Chapel St Leonards and Sutton Sea
offer a diverse range of entertainment for young and old. You can
enjoy the bright lights and funfair scene, donkey rides or a gentle
stroll along the promenade. There are nature reserves to see bird life
or the seals. November is a good time to visit to see the seals' 'pupping'
at Donna Nook.
Aviation enthusiasts will know
that Lincolnshire is known as the Bomber County of World War II. No
less than 93 airfields could be found in the South and East of England
during the War and some still exist today. Visit the
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
at RAF Coningsby and see one of the last flying Lancaster aircraft.
The latest RAF fighter - the Eurofighter Typhoon has recently made
this its base.
A nostalgic trip down memory lane can be found at East Kirkby.
The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre
is based at what was the airfield and is a truly amazing collection of
memorabilia and salvaged aircraft, parts, vehicles and another
Lancaster called 'Just Jane' which performs taxi runs but is not
airworthy. There are rooms in the old Control Tower reconstructed to
depict life on the airfield during those times and a most beautiful
Chapel dedicated to all those lost during the war years.
At RAF Scampton you will find the
Red Arrows display team. This
airfield was the home of the Dambuster Squadron and a memorial to them
can be found in Woodhall Spa. Also in Woodhall Spa you will see the
Petwood Hotel used by the RAF Officers.
Other visitor centres which open to the public are RAF Digby and
Metheringham.
If golf is your passion we are only 12 miles from the
National Golf Centre which is the
HQ for the English Golf Union in Woodhall Spa. There are golf courses
at Kenwick Park near Louth (8 miles distance), the Louth Golf Club and
at West Ashby near Horncastle (8 miles distance).

Cadwell Park Racing Circuit is
nearby, about six miles and they have a good programme of events for
both motorcycles and cars.
Lincolnshire is becoming noted for its food and produce.
The Tastes of Lincolnshire
initiative headed by Chef Rachel Green is taking off and wonderful
speciality foods are now more easily obtained. The County Council has
promoted the Farmers Markets and these are proving very popular. We
have a number of award winning food specialists close by who raise
rare breed sheep, cattle and pigs.
There are so many venues, Market Rasen Race
Course, Grimsby's Fishing Heritage
Centre and Rand Farm Park
near Wragby are just a few more. We could go on and on and on...!
Last of all don't forget our own fishing ponds and there are other
fisheries in the locality if you fancy a change.
Each cottage has a folder with information, leaflets etc and in the
Information Centre in the barn lots more.
Make Grange Farm your home from home, we can have picnics, bonfires,
barbecues, just ask and we will do our best to oblige.
