Murphy's and Woodside Pond, Thorganby,
near York, are two very well established and maintained coarse
fishing ponds surrounded by tranquil countryside where wildlife is
in abundance.
Both ponds have been stocked since
the late 90's early 2000, allowing the fish to grow naturally to
some considerable sizes.
Woodside
pond
Woodside pond is the smaller of the two ponds and the first
developed and contains 19 pegs. It is situated at the edge of a wood
which provides much needed shelter against the elements. The pond
has a natural shape to it and there is excellent growth of marginal
reeds, lily pads and over hanging trees.
A
fabulous array of specimen carp can be found in this pond such as;
mirror and common carp (averaging weights 5lb upwards to mid 20lbs)
however, some anglers have informed us that they have caught late
20lbs, early 30lbs. Other variations are Crucian carp. Roach, Tench,
Ide, Bream, Rudd and Perch can also be found and weights vary from
1lb upwards to a recently caught 3lb 9oz perch.
The car park is situated next to the pond providing easy access to
disabled anglers and only a couple of metres to the nearest peg.
Both ponds have hard standing to all pegs and the surrounding
walkways/paths.
Murphy's
pond
Murphy's pond contains 43 pegs and has many nooks and crannies for
fishing in. This pond is predominantly snake like in shape and there
are three islands within the pond, two of which boast trees and a
variety of marginal reeds. Subsequently; two of the islands can also
be fished upon due to access via strong and sturdy bridges which are
also compatible for disabled anglers.
Again,
excellent specimens of fish can be caught from mirror and common
carp (5lb upwards to mid 20lbs) F1 carp range from 1.5lb to 3.5lb.
The pond also contains Bream, Roach, Tench, Ide, Rudd, Perch and
Chub.
Murphy's pond has its own separate and spacious car park allowing
access for disabled anglers and a public footpath can be found just
outside the entrance to the pond, linking Wheldrake to Thorganby
very handy for those anglers accompanied by friends/other half's who
find fishing boring.
Note:
Both
ponds are noted for their good colour and depth making them perfect
for all year round fishing- furthermore, we have received many
positive comments from anglers who have remarked on the fantastic
condition of our fish and how they put up a good fight. |
