The Fishery

Tansterne Fishery sits in the hamlet of Tansterne in East Yorkshire approximately 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north east of Sproatley and 1 mile (1.6 km) south west of Aldbrough.

Our Fishery is a float only fishing venue with a total of 48 fishing pegs. Originally Tansterne fishery consisted of three separate ponds, the Main pond, Car Park pond and Canal pond. Over the last couple of years the 'Car Park Pond' has since been incorporated with the 'Main Pond' to form a larger fishing area, with all fish from the main pond having access to this area.

A number of fishing pegs are available for less abled anglers with the facility to park within 20 yards of where they are fishing.

We have free car parking and a porta loo onsite for your use. The fishery is open all year and fishing is available from dawn until dusk.

Tansterne Fishing Ponds are also available for match bookings and fishing club and charity events, with special rates for large bookings.

Carp Fishing
Carp anglers, we have mirror carp to 30lb and common carp to 18lb although please remember this is a float only venue and may not be suitable for those of you who like to fish using buzzers / bait alarms and ledgers for the big fish.

Coarse Fishing
Including carp to 30lb+ our ponds hold a variety of coarse fish for coarse anglers. Species include Barbel, Chub, Tench, Ide, Roach, Rudd, Bream, Crucian Carp, Perch and thousands of ghost carp.

Match Fishing

Disabled Angling

We have a number of pegs available for less abled anglers with the facility to park within 20 yards of the fishing pegs.

Main Pond:

The main pond is split in two by a walkway bridge and has an island at both ends..
Pegs on the main pond run anti clockwise from peg 1 to peg 37.  Peg 1 is on the north side (canal pond side) nearest to the buildings.

Peg 6 is where the current match record was caught from, 117lb 14oz by Steve Pulford on the19th August 2011

Keep nets and Landing nets provided at every peg.

The main pond fishes well to both waggler and pole.

Best baits :
In the summer season most baits work.

Maggot - Pellet - Meat - Bread (on the hook only) - Chopped Worm - Cheese - Paste.

They all work although maggots tend to attract the perch.

Fish in the main pond include :-

most prevalent are the ghost carp in their thousands !!

Pond depths
The main pond nearest the buildings is approximately 3 feet 6 inches deep around the island and falls away to 5 feet 6 inches after the sunken island at peg 4 and 26. The area in peg 23 to 33 of the pond has an upturned saucer bottom so that it is shallower in the middle. The depths vary in this area with the deepest points to 10 feet

Once you cross over the bridge, the depth increases to 7 feet and there is a ledge around the island that sits about 2 feet under the surface and protrudes 2 to 3 feet.

The margins in the main pond fish exceptionally well and is ideal for waggler fishing.

Canal Pond

The Canal pond is fished from one side only and is 11 metres across at its narrowest point and 14 metres at its widest. This pond is perfect for pole fishing.

On the side you fish from there is a ledge under the water and this is 3 to 4 foot wide and 3 foot deep.

On the far side of Canal pond there are two ledges, the first ledge is approx 2 ft 6 inches under the water and 3 foot wide and the second ledge is a further 2 ft 6 inches under the water and protrudes for another 3 foot.

The middle of the pond fishes to 9 feet at the deepest point.

Canal pond is ideal for fishing the pole and bait can be presented perfectly.  This pond also fishes well to waggler fished close to the far side.

Best baits :

Most baits catch fish in Canal pond.

Maggot - Pellet - Meat - Bread (on the hook only) - Chopped Worm - Cheese - Paste.
