Fishing Holidays in Scotland

Fishing in Aberdeenshire, Scotland is predominantly known for its excellent fly fishing for salmon and trout but some very good sea angling can also be found from the shores of Aberdeen for various species. Fishing for the coarse anglers includes some large pike and perch waiting to be caught in the lochs.

Before starting to fish on any water in Aberdeenshire please enquire as to fishing permits and the rules and regulations. It is the responsibility of the angler to obtain a fishing permit and to read and adhere to the conditions. Also be aware that fishing may not be allowed on Sundays.

Coarse Fishing

Coarse fishing is not as popular in Scotland but is available in certain areas. I have read, but cannot verify, that Aboyne Loch between Banchory and Ballater offers fishing for bream, carp, ide, perch, pike, roach and tench. Pike over 30lb have  reportedly been caught.

Sea Fishing

The sea fishing Aberdeenshire offers anglers varies from sandy beach stretches to rocky shores. charter boat fishing is also available from the harbours of Aberdeenshire.

Game Fishing

A couple of the best fly fishing rivers for salmon fishing in Aberdeenshire are the River Dee and River Don.

The River Dee is famously noted as the top spring Salmon fishing river in Britain. A clear and fast flowing river with numerous productive pools. Many anglers visit from across the world visit the River Dee for its Atlantic salmon and sea trout.

The River Don offers anglers on fishing holidays in Aberdeenshire excellent fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing. The wild brown trout fishing is said to be the finest in Europe. Several beats are available on the Rived Don with Aberdeenshire Council managing four separate beats on the river at reasonable cost.
